Alexandre Family EcoDairy Farms is a family grass-based organic dairy on the northern California Coast, producing organic milk in Crescent City, Smith River, Eureka, and Ferndale. Managed under traditional farming methods and strong organic principles, we have been certified organic for over 15 years. Today we operate four grass-based organic dairies in Humboldt and Del Norte County, with 4,200 crossbred dairy cows on 4,300 acres of pasture. We produce milk for Humboldt Creamery and Rumiano Cheese.

If you walk on our farm, you’ll see cows of all colors. In the beginning we focused on the registered Holsteins, but in the last 15 years we began crossbreeding Jerseys into the herd with a bit of other New Zealand and German breeds. Our whole herd is now 100% crossbreeds, allowing us to pick and choose traits desirable for a grazing dairy. We have also bred the last 3 generations of our cows to carry the A2A2 beta casein milk protein gene in their DNA, creating considerably higher health benefits. They are also free of the 7 amino acid segment, BCM-7 that is in A1A1 milk and is linked to Type 1 diabetes, heart disease, and autism. While breeding for this trait we are also looking for small, wide-bodied cows that thrive on pasture.

Our cows feed only on fresh pasture or dried forages and do not eat grain or soybeans. We’re passionate about this philosophy and the grass roots are literally at the heart of it. Since we want to make the highest quality products for people, 100% grassfed is the perfect fit for us. We believe we can make the most nutritious milk for consumers that both tastes good and makes people feel good. What we eat should make us feel physically good and our grassfed milk provides this due to the elevated nutrients like CLA, Vitamins and Omega 3 Fatty Acids.
