March Wine Tasting Demonstration
Posted March 21, 2016

Red wines are created by pressing or crushing red grapes and allowing the juices and the skins to mingle together for long periods of time to create the variances in color from a Syrah to a Merlot.
The Pink hue that Rose' wines are known for is developed by pressing the juices from a red grape with the skins but only allowing for a very short period of time in which the skins are in contact with the juice, This juice is then put into vats sans skins and fermented to create a true Rose'.
The Saignée (“San-yay”) method is another way of creating a Rose'. During the first few hours of making a red wine, some of the juice is bled off and fermented which intensifies the flavors of the Red to create a Rose'. This method is popular in regions famous for their Red wine production.
Blending is another method in which a small amount of red wine is added to a batch of white wine, it doesn't take much, to create a rosey hue. This method is more common for sparkling varieties.
Our March tasting proved successful in sharing the scope of Rose' wines available here on the North Coast as well as introducing some French options. All of our tastings were well received and none of them were sugary sweet!
Didn't get the chance to drop in a try them for yourself, we have another event coming up on April 2nd in the Eureka Community Kitchen. See you there!
