May Board Report
By Brenda Harper, Board President
The Co-op Board of Directors met in person at the Arcata Community Center on May 2, 2024.
Sean Nolan, General Manager, provided an update on the generators that are being installed at both Co-op locations. The backordered transfer switch for the Eureka store has arrived and once the permits are completed, the generator will be installed. The transfer switch for the Arcata store should arrive in August. Installation of the generator in Arcata will begin in preparation for when the transfer switch arrives. These generators will provide electrical backup during power outages which will help prevent product loss.
Sean reports strong sales for April, although the numbers for Arcata were affected by an operational issue with the plumbing, which caused the store to close early and open late toward the end of the month. The Eureka store’s sales exceeded the prior year’s sales.
North Coast Co-op sponsored Zero Waste Humboldt’s Earth Day event, Zero Waste Marketplace, in the parking lot on April 20. Vendors displayed and sold their goods and agencies provided information on composting and energy savings.
On May 18, 10am – 2pm, we will be celebrating the new upgrades to the Eureka store with a SAMPLEFEST event. There will be lots of food samples and a raffle with over $500 in prizes. There will also be exclusive one-day discounts on various featured products and the first 50 attendees will receive a free gift bag.
The next board meeting will be via Zoom on Thursday, June 6 at 6pm.
