October Board Report

North Coast Co-op

By Brenda Harper, Board President

The Co-op Board of Directors met by Zoom on October 3, 2024.

Sean Nolan reported that although there have been snags and issues related to gas pressure with the backup generator in Arcata it should be operational by the end of October. In Eureka the gas lines are being laid and we are consulting with PG&E to be sure all will work with the new generator. All required parts and materials are available now so there is forward progress with the installation. The purpose of these generators is to provide backup electricity in a power outage, therefore preventing the loss of product that requires refrigeration.

The results of the annual election for two open general seats on the Board of Directors are in. Mike Connors and Layla Richardson received the highest number of votes. The Board of Directors had their orientation on October 24. Before the orientation the Board of Directors met to approve the new Employee Director, Elizabeth Gahm. The Board will choose new officers at the next Board meeting.

This year’s Annual Membership meeting was held Sunday, October 13, 1-3 at the D Street Neighborhood Center in Arcata. The meeting focused on discussing our current 5-year Strategic Plan and kick off discussion for the next 5-year plan. Guest speaker, Robin Praszker, Environmental Project Manager for the City of Eureka, presented on short-lived climate pollutants and organic waste reduction.

The parking lot in Arcata is being restriped making navigating the lot a bit easier. Drivers entering the lot with have the right of way while those leaving will need to stop at the ‘stop lines’ to allow entering cars plenty of space to enter. Bright directional arrows will direct drivers in the proper direction.

The next Board meeting will be in person on November 7 at 6pm at the D Street Neighborhood Center in Arcata.
